Valuing Teachers: A Space to Inspire, Research, and Grow
“I wanted a place to read. But I have a library… and yet, I didn’t want just a library. I wanted someone to guide and mentor me.”
This thought has stayed with me ever since my days as an educator. A library can provide books, but not necessarily the motivation or the direction needed to make reading and learning truly meaningful. That is when my mentor suggested creating the right place, a space that not only motivates reading but also enhances learning and nurtures research.
I was reminded of a friend of mine, an excellent teacher who had once asked me, “What will I do by doing a PhD?” She was deeply committed to her teaching career and saw little scope for research beyond higher education. At that moment, I realized that there is a common misconception that research belongs only in universities and higher studies.
But today, as I work with teachers across age groups, I see the real necessity: research is not just for scholars in academia. It is equally important for teachers who nurture young children. It is in the early years that curiosity, inquiry, and the love of learning are built. Teachers too must be given the tools and space to research, reflect, and innovate.
With this vision, we launched the Teacher Resource Centre (TRC), an initiative mentored and managed by Teacher360.
The TRC is not just a repository of books and materials. It is a dynamic environment where teachers are encouraged to:
- Explore new ways of learning and teaching.
- Engage in guided research to strengthen classroom practices.
- Collaborate with peers and mentors for professional growth.
- Develop strategies that enhance both student learning and teacher effectiveness.
By setting up TRCs in schools, we create spaces that go beyond routine teaching. They become hubs of inquiry where teachers read, reflect, experiment, and document their findings. More importantly, they develop the habit of continuous professional learning, which ultimately benefits the children they teach.
At Teacher360, we believe that when teachers are empowered to research and innovate, education itself transforms. The Teacher Resource Centre is our step toward making research accessible, relevant, and impactful, not just for higher education, but for every classroom, every child, and every teacher.
And sometimes, the humour in research hits close to home: I once watched a teacher walk into a TRC, glance around at the carefully curated books and resources, and mutter, “I just came here to find a book on classroom management… but I think I left with a PhD in curiosity instead!”
